Everywhere you go, the liveliness of the landscapes travels with you, says those who have travelled the Ring Road in Iceland at least once in their life. The magnificent rainbows painting the sky, waterfalls producing soothing sounds, horses running in the lush green fields, heart-stopping mountains, sparkling springs and a lot of more await you at every step of your journey alongside the number one national road, the Ring Road, of Iceland.

To those not aware, the Ring Road is also known as Route 1 and it stretches 828 miles long connecting some of the most famous tourist destinations of the country. While internet is flooded with the information about the touristy delights of the Icelandic road trip, I bet you will be overwhelmed with the pleasant surprises the journey will bring to you upon arrival.

A self-drive campervan road trip is a perfect way to explore the most beautiful offerings of this Nordic island country. Though tours go year-round here, summer is the best time of the year for your road trip. Hang on, how can I miss to tell you that Iceland is the land of the Midnight Sun.

Here is a 10-day suggested itinerary for your Iceland Ring Road Trip:

Day 1: The Blue Lagoon
The journey begins at your campervan rental Iceland depot. Pick up your four-wheels at the airport of Keflavik and hit the road at the Reykjanes peninsula, the southernmost spot of the country. Here we recommend you to book your campervan hire in Iceland online well before your arrival date so you can make the most of your time and save hassles. Got a jet lag? Feel relaxed at the Blue Lagoon and prepare for the trip to Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.

Day 2: The Golden Circle
On a second day of this tour, you will first stop at Thingvellir National Park, home to historical Icelandic parliament. Then head up to the popular Geysirs hot-spring area. Day 3: South Coast
The major highlights of this trip include awesome views of Eyfjafjallajokull central volcano and glaciers close to Fljotshlid. A visit to the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls is a must for first-timers. Head down to the ancient village Kirkjubaejarklaustur.

Your today’s drive will make you see some big glacier rivers, hike the highest summit of the country, enjoy a walk surrounding the Skaftafellsjokull glacier and find a boat tour in Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.
