A road trip to the Amalfi Coast, which is called the Costiera Amalfitana in Italian by the locals, is arguably the most scenic road drive the country has on offer. Dotted with a magnificent coastline, the journey will make you experience the peerless beauty of charming villages, hillsides, cliffs, spectacular vertical stretching roads, picturesque gardens and breathtaking views of landscapes over emerald green mountains and pristine turquoise waters.

It is the unrivalled treasure of natural and cultural scenes accompanied by the incredibly marvellous Mediterranean landscape that account for its honour as a world heritage listed site since 1997. To those not aware, the Amalfi Coast stretches along the south contour of the Sorrento Peninsula looking over the Bay of Naples.

Stopping by the most famous towns – Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello

These 3 famous villages have stirred and fascinated many artists for thousands of years; Giovanni Boccaccio, a great writer from 14th century and Richard Wagner a popular composer of 19th-century are to name a few. If you are an art buff, these are a must-see places for you during this road trip.

You can start off with your journey from Salerno – the most accessible part of the coastline. Take the keys of your campervan rental in Italy and drive towards Vietri sul Mare, a pretty-looking village quite famous for its ceramics and its panoramic views of the coast.

In your journey, there won’t be dearth of viewpoints. So, you can stop your campervan when you want. the spectacular sandy beach at the villages of Maiori, Minori which is home to the wonderful historical relics, and the two tempting churches of Atrani are some major highlights worth exploring before you reach Ravello.

Next place in your itinerary is Ravello; it is a perfect choice for those looking for a beautiful, romantic escape in southern Italy. At a glance, you will find this small Italian village closer to the sky than the sea. Its steep roads and terraced slopes have inspired many artists and poets so far.

Spare time exploring the serene streets, majestic gardens, sunny corners and a stunning high-rise setting that offers heart-stirring views of the azure coastline below. There is a lot more in the town that will make you return home with some pleasant memories.

Making unforgettable memories at the Amalfi Coast

Taking a corniche road to the Amalfi, you will reach a heavenly beautiful place home to one of the world’s most beautiful seafront flaunting in its unique style with modern shops, cafes, resorts and pleasant weather. Yes, you will find the place a bit over-crowded too! If you want to avoid the crowd, it is best to visit the place in the off tourist season.

However, this isn’t all the Amalfi coast has on offer. There are plenty of other things to see and do. Duomo di Sant’Andrea, Valle dei Mulini and Praiano and Positano are some most visited sites in the region. What’s make it even more memorable are the narrow, winding roads of the Amalfi Coast that add more fun, thrill and excitement to your journey.

When is the best time to visit the place

According to the locals, May and mid-September to October are best time of the year to drive along the Amalfi Coast.
